Gathered together for a ceremonial tryst
Surrounded by family, coworkers and friends
For a celebrational festivity of a love in begins
I see seating arrangements, candles all aglow,
Flower petals on carpets, music playing low
Announcements of the following proceedings scrolled
In hands of our guests as they gather for the show
All taking their seats among whispered conversations
Knowing that today is a long awaited dedication
Of our becoming as an announced replication
A civilized world's expectancy in domestication
Our crowd, God bless them, they all look so nice
In their dresses, and suits, high heels and bow ties
Some are already there wiping tears from their eyes
From the emotion that's playing in each of their lives
Our flower girls assemble, our groomsmen walk in
I can't help but feel the anticipation within
Knowing the outcome you and I have both planned
After the reciting of the welcoming we penned
Then the music quiets, and changes the tune
The crowd stands to their feet as the minister assumes
Their place in the center of the stage with floral blooms
While the final preparation for our arrival concludes
We enter from different angles smile at each other
Take steps in coordination approaching the center
When once we are there we'll join hands together
Leaving the sides of those who were our escorts
Turn to face the crowd, to show our best dressed
Then turn to the minister who'll proceed with the rest
In offering all those gathered a true hearted bless
While we hold each others hands feeling anxious
After the blessings and welcoming's are done
The minister will step aside for a song to be sung
The crowd sits quietly enjoying the song
Knowing by each other's side is where we rightfully belong
You'll step away slightly, handing the minister a note
"To be read after vows" wrote on the envelope
Then take my hands confidently again into yours
Reassuring me again it's the right thing we know
The song ends as rehearsed we hear sniffles in the crowd
The minister steps forward then speaks out loud
Enough for everyone to hear every sweet sound
Of the words we thought about to be read as wrote down
Then comes the moment that these events lead us to
Our moment, every one said, was a moment over due
The minister looks at me then briefly looks at you
Asks if you take me as your life's love in eternal truth
You hesitate, no answer, then look me in the eye
I hold your gaze steady no need to reply
Our hands still clasped firmly in each other's tight
The minister again the question recites
Again not a word from you can be heard
You stand there in silence while the crowd observes
Us as we stand in a show case of love's worth
Defined by the traditions of histories on earth
You wink and you smile at me, the time's come
Say, "baby, I love you, let's not do this, let's run
away like we have since our love first begun
to be who were are undefined by everyone
who wanted this exhibition for their day as some
meaningful validation between you and me
not ever acknowledging our love as we see
it growing every day in every way it can be
creating the new of our futures as free
Run baby run, I'll be right there with you
Let them have all the cake, and the flowers too
We'll take what's between us as we go through
Those doors in the back where love waits for me you"
I don't look away from you, I don't reply
I grip your hands tighter then turn to take flight
Down the aisle with you step by step side by side
Until we are clearly out of every one's sight
I can see it all now, the crowd and their faces
Our assembly and the minister still standing in their places
Looking at each other wondering what are the chances
We'll walk back in to resume our ceremonial stances
While this passionate caring we share as you me
Is kept between us complete and faithfully
Allowing each the other all the time to grow and be
Without defining our lives with expected ceremonies
Never needing a certificate or plagiarized recitations
To know that our lives together fulfills love's obligations
In truthfulness, honoring, the other's devotions
Without the need of tricks, one upping, or portions
Of the other's soul without any reason to hide
Welcomed always within us with arms opened wide
To nurture our lives as our love abides
Reigning supreme between your life and mine
