There were others on the earth who felt the need to form in verse
To explain in rhyme and song all the stories carried on
From their elders' words they spoke to tell the tails of different folk
Leprechaunic pixie fairies near the waters making merry
Garden gnomes who raked and toiled 'neath the feet of gardeners' soil
Generation elfin sorts older wiser natural mortals
Winged and lighted little sprites filling meadows with delights
Dewing webs made by the spiders turning tree fruits into ciders
Drawing maps on forest floors making trails thru trees and more
Riding birds to take to skies busy on a moon lit night
Dodging bats carving homes in the trunks of wood and stone
Burrowing through hilly shrubs capturing and placing bugs
In the pillows of the humans who their selves gave nothing to them
Only tore their homes apart replacing all their natural arts
With a view hewn down to size for a giant manly size
Muddied waters where they bathed picked the mushrooms where they laid
Underneath on sunny days planning for their planting days
Spreading pollens rooting vines so berries bloom on intertwined
Nutty trees over mossy rocks crickets chirping as their clocks
Trolley people pesky hogs stole their ponds and mired the bogs
Where the playful spirited things existed as the days of spring
Birthed before the eden tree was ever known to history
Made as helpers for the earth to spread its floral faunas worth
To keep the waters flow to streams and carry lights in golden beams
Into shadows cast aground where the trees stood thick around
Giving grasses light to grow warming seedlings from the cold
On the cooler autumn nights when the stars were all the light
In the lands where they lived with creation their makers gift
Watched they did over time as human hands began designs
To reshape the world they knew into something most eschewed
From their natural habitats where once they all shared all they had
Hearing footsteps replace thunder their little eyes searching yonder
Watching hoping all along that what they saw was a strong
Delusion caused from too much wine rung from the fermented vines
Where they gathered drank to fill their tiny selves from evenings chill
Listening they did you see to see what sorts these man folks really be
Were they friends or were they foes how the wee ones wished to know
Large and hairy smelly too gave a fright to more than few
Rumors spread and watches kept indeed they did to learn the steps
Of the men who traveled in herds learning their behaviors words
Then came others singing maidens who kept to housings daily giving's
The puckish planners in the hills sent the dwarves to tunnel still
Nearer houses where the people slept in things called houses, gables
The things they heard oh my word these men folk sure had lots of nerve
Calling the fairies artful bliss wasteful use of resources
And guarantee they swore they'd know if anything thing did go wrong
It was some ill puckish gnome sent to blight destroy their home
Cast them out they would with fire leaving fairies lives in dire
Need of refuge from these realms raging in the woodland helms
Stay away the sprites did say to those they knew and far away
These things called people are the worst things that ever moved on earth
Making messes destroying the trees killing animals capturing bees
Blaming us for all they do let's all show them a thing or two
So a few, can't say which ones, decided man kind better learn
Not to blame them for the harm they had produced all along
Wrote they then upon a leaf all the pranks they could perceive
Would do well enough to teach squatters not their honors breach
Then up spoke a pixie or two to keep the young ones safe it's true
Leprechauns agreed and chimed "it's not the wee folks faults besides
Do you see how they're ignored by the men who grump and snort
We've played with them," a gasp was heard, 'aye we did you mark our words
The younger ones are friends indeed gentle things our mercies need
When they're sad the saddest sounds draws our want to gather round
To ease their burdens if we can flutter an eye lash or flute from pan
Calm they do and try to speak tottering over smiles in cheeks
Give them patience and in time from our visits we will find
Ourselves welcome to their hearths from the goodness we impart
Then the maidens, leave them be, unless you know yourself that she
Plotted brandish idle alarms to do no good except to harm
Our own families and our homes" agreed said pixies, fairies, gnomes
Then took they their plans in hand to defend themselves against men
Who dared destroy their given lives and blame them for their self made strife's
Over time the men did learn a pixie fairy not to spurn
When in their fields they would find an annoying thistle from behind
Giving them a buttock stick or ivy vine which caused an itch
A bucket full of snails and worms drawn from wells which had turned
Into frog ponds holy toads poor pan laughed a week or so
The men folk couldn't believe their eyes from all the doings elves designed
Little things which was never conceived placed before their eyes to believe
That fairies, pixies, dwarves and elves are natures creatures to themselves
And bad decisions made by men shouldn't be placed as blame to them
The maidens taught the men to see how their doings did achieve
The disasters and the problems they caused upon their ambitious sprawling's
Then sure enough as it was told the young ones whom were spared to grow
Without the prankish mischief harms welcomed them with open arms
Into their lives every day to work to gather and to play
As winsome family enlivening friends learned each others ways and then
Secured their homes and their ways so all of them could forever stay
A part of each's reality where once upon a time you see
They became the best of friends so that their stories would never end
And bring again with jubilation the fondness of those generations
Where creator stepped aside and allowed those who abided
To decide what they would be to each other in eternity
A gift a friend a foe a curse misunderstood better or worse
For those who want will find a way to keep all goodness in their days
